Things went disastrously wrong. It was a real mess. We tried to {compensate|handle the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a spoon. We're still picking up the pieces and feeling the sting of this epic fail.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total catastrophe. We've Very bad tried everything to fix it, but nothing seems to work. At this point, it feels like we're toast. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a train wreck of epic proportions.
This is So Bad, It's Funny (Not Really)
Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so terrible that you can't help but burst out chuckling. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer extent of unadulterated absurdity and just throws its hands up, opting for laughter as a coping defense.
But then, you realize that it's not really funny. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you experienced morphs into a sigh.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You question about the meaning of it all. Was this some kind of twisted art experiment?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
A Disaster of Epic Proportions
The volcanic eruption struck suddenly, ravaging entire villages in its path. Buildings shattered like house of cards, and the screams that ensued was deafening. Thousands were buried beneath rubble, their fate uncertain. The scale of the disaster was unprecedented, leaving survivors to confront a future forever changed.

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of terrible hair. I couldn't figure it to look decent. As I was running out the door, I fell and spilled all over myself. To make matters worse, I was extremely late for school.
I in a state of utter panic. My {boss|mentor|was absolutely furious. I tried to explain, but it was a complete disaster.
The rest of the day was an absolute nightmare. Everything. I couldn'tconcentrate.
By the time I got home, I was utterly defeated. This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.
Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible
It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then it went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
